This simple oven-baked broccoli recipe is made with some cheddar cheese coating and comes out really cheesy, tasty, and crispy. Enjoy as a snack, side dish, or appetizer. Get your kids to eat more broccoli and veggies by dressing them up a bit and making them more interesting. If you are looking for more appetizer ideas, then you can check my post on my best appetizer recipes that I put together in which I show you my favorite picks.
Broccoli may not be everyone’s favorite vegetable, not just kids, but how you prepare it will make a huge difference in the taste. I love this so much and I mostly enjoy it alongside some Honey mustard grilled chicken or this cilantro lime grilled salmon.
Ingredients You Will Need
Ingredients measurements are listed further down below in the recipe card.
- Head Broccoli, chopped into florets: do use fresh broccoli and not frozen
- Eggs: Large-sized eggs
- Milk: any milk of your choice, I like using 2% milk
- Almond Flour: used to keep this low carb, but you can use any other flour like oat flour
- Grated Parmesan Cheese: grate your own or store-bought will work just fine
- Grated Cheddar Cheese
- Garlic Powder and Salt
How To Make baked Broccoli
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg and milk and set aside. In another bowl, stir the almond flour, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and salt.
- Preheat oven to 400 F and prepare a sheet pan with tin foil or parchment paper.
- Dip a floret in the egg mixture and then the almond flour mixture until completely coated.
- Place on the sheet pan and repeat until you use all the florets. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake for 10-15 minutes
My Pro Tip
Recipe Tip from my kitchen
- I recommend using fresh broccoli and not frozen. The texture and consistency will vary. Also, try not to overcook the broccoli.
- Add any other flavors if you like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Broccoli holds a lot of water. You may have used frozen broccoli or the broccoli still had a lot of water when you washed it. Try using fresh broccoli if possible and pat the broccoli dry well with a paper towel
I highly recommend using fresh broccoli for best results. Using frozen broccoli will not yield the same freshness and crunchiness.
Soaking raw broccoli in a mixture of water and vinegar will help kill most of the germs that will be in the broccoli and help remove bugs and debris.
