If you’re looking for an easy meal-prep idea that doesn’t take all day to make, you’ll love this honey garlic chicken. It’s juicy, flavorful, ready in 30 minutes, and perfect for simple meal-prep bowls with broccoli and quinoa.

My kids love Asian Inspired dishes; whenever I make them, I can see the excitement on their faces. I don’t really blame them 🤓 These types of dishes can be so flavorful and keep the taste buds happy.
Juicy, tender chicken bites, cooked in a delicious honey-garlic sauce and served with sautéed broccoli on a bed of cooked quinoa. I love this recipe for meal prep because it comes together in about 30 minutes and makes four ready-to-go meals for the week. Meal prepping can be especially helpful for those who don’t have enough time to cook daily.
I have a lot of meal-prep recipes, and you may also like my Teriyaki chicken meal-prep recipe. It’s so good.
Why I like making this recipe
- Perfect for meal prepping: if you plan your meals this recipe is for you! It helps me stay on track when I plan.
- Easy to make: this chicken meal prep recipe is easy to make. It takes about 30 minutes total to prep and get this ready to go.
- Healthy: This chicken dish is so wholesome and a perfectly healthy meal. With the right amount of protein, carbs, and fiber.
Meal Prep Ideas for Honey Garlic Chicken
This chicken is one of my favorite meal prep ideas because you can cook everything ahead and divide it into individual containers. I like serving it with quinoa and broccoli, but you can easily switch things up throughout the week.
- Quinoa: Use brown rice, white rice, or couscous instead.
- Vegetables: Swap the broccoli for green beans, Brussels sprouts, carrots, or roasted vegetables.
- Protein: Use chicken thighs or shrimp instead of chicken breast.
- Sauce: Make a little extra honey garlic sauce to drizzle over the bowls before serving.
- Bowls: Add cucumber, shredded carrots, edamame, or cabbage for more variety.

Key Ingredients
- Oil: You can use avocado, olive oil, or groundnut oil
- Chicken breast, or you may also use boneless and skinless chicken thighs.
- Egg
- Cornstarch: or arrowroot powder
- Salt and pepper
- One head broccoli
- Sesame oil
- Quinoa: you can swap this with rice or couscous. Not sure how to make it? Check out my post on how to cook couscous.
- Honey: agave would also work.
- Sriracha sauce, or another hot sauce, but I prefer sriracha.
- Garlic cloves: Do use fresh garlic cloves.
- Rice wine vinegar
- To garnish: green onions, black or white sesame seeds

How To Make Honey Garlic Chicken Meal Prep
Prepare 2 bowls, one with beaten egg, and the second with cornstarch mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Dip the chicken into the beaten egg. Place all the pieces in the cornstarch and toss to coat lightly and evenly.
Heat the oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces in a single layer without overlapping. Cook until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.

In a medium bowl, whisk all the sauce ingredients. Pour sauce over the chicken and toss to coat, then set aside. Quickly wipe the pan clean with a paper towel, and add in the remaining oil.
Preheat skillet again, stir fry the broccoli until they start to brown. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper and set aside.

Add about 1/2 cup of cooked quinoa to each meal prep bowl. Divide the broccoli and chicken among your bowls and arrange over the quinoa.
Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and lime wedges. Refrigerate for up to 4 days. Serve cold or reheated, as desired.

How to Actually Meal Prep Honey Garlic Chicken
Make the chicken, broccoli, and quinoa as directed, then let everything cool slightly before dividing it between four meal prep containers. Add about ½ cup of quinoa to each container, followed by the broccoli and chicken. Store the containers in the refrigerator and reheat when you’re ready to eat.
Ways to Change Up Your Meal Prep Bowls
You don’t have to eat the exact same bowl four days in a row. Keep the honey garlic chicken as the base and switch up the sides.
- With rice: Swap the quinoa for white or brown rice.
- With vegetables: Try green beans, Brussels sprouts, carrots, or snap peas instead of broccoli.
- With noodles: Serve the chicken over rice noodles or soba noodles.
- With salad: Add the chicken to a big salad with cucumber, shredded carrots, and sesame seeds.
Recipe notes and tips
- Chicken: I prefer you to use lean chicken breast. But you may use boneless chicken thighs. you may switch the protein to either shrimp if you like.
- Broccoli: use fresh if possible. Frozen will also work. Don’t like broccoli? use any of your favorite veggies like green beans or Brussels sprouts.
- Oil: any oil works
- Quinoa: if you don’t like quinoa, you may use brown rice.
- Store these honey garlic chicken in containers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- This meal is slightly spicy but you may either add less sriracha or skip it completely.

Frequently asked questions
I love serving honey garlic chicken with some sort of veggies like broccoli, green beans, or Brussel sprouts, and a side of carbs like brown, quinoa, or roasted potatoes. You can get as creative as you like with what you serve it with. You can even try spaghetti.
To thicken the honey garlic sauce, I simply just coated the chicken with corn starch which will eventually blend in with the sauce. If the sauce is still on the thin side, you can mix about 2 tsp of cornstarch with water and add it to the sauce. Alternatively, you may use any flour.
Its better to season your chicken before cooking and allow it to marinade to get delicious tender and juicy chicken. Some may use marinate their chicken with spices as they cook the chicken in the pan which is also fine to do.
You can store these meal prep bowls in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep them covered in airtight containers and reheat until the chicken is warmed through.

Notes
- Note: I have edited this recipe to use one more tablespoon of cornstarch, for a total of 3 instead of 2. I am trying to limit this amount to keep it as healthy as possible. Feel free to add 4 tablespoons, which will be about 1/4 cup. Or you can mix 2 tbsp of cornstarch and 2 tbsp of flour.
- Chicken: I prefer you to use lean chicken breast. But you may use boneless chicken thighs. You may switch the protein to shrimp if you like. You can use 4 medium-sized chicken breasts or 3 large ones- about 1½ pounds (24 ounces / 680 g)
- Store the prepared meal prep bowls in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Swap the quinoa for white rice, brown rice, or couscous.
- Frozen broccoli can be used if you don’t have fresh.
- For less heat, use less Sriracha or leave it out.
- Let the chicken and quinoa cool slightly before assembling the containers.
- Reheat gently until warmed through.

The recipe is good after necessary modifications, however I’m confused by the measurements. In what world is 2 tablespoons of corn starch enough to coat 4 diced chicken breasts? How is that little sauce supposed to cover all of that chicken? Was this recipe written by ChatGPT???
Hi Jonathan. I assure you, it is not ChatGPT lol. I spend a lot of time developing and testing my recipes. Most people like to keep their macros down, especially when it comes to meal prepping. I used that amount, which is just enough, and it still gives that thick sauce consistency when cooked. Feel free to add more or mix it in with 2 more tablespoons of regular flour.
I must be doing something terribly wrong then because I am seeing the same thing. It’s not about macros, it’s that I can’t physically get the corn starch to last. By the time I get through the first breast whatever isn’t on the chicken is stuck to the bowl from the egg and can’t coat a thing.
Fabulous, I used spinach and green cabbage as that’s what I had. Soooo good. Thank you.
So glad you loved it.
Absolutely delicious meal Ty…..quick and easy to make….thoughly enjoyed….👍
Thanks. So glad you loved it and thanks for the feedback.
Yummy! 😋 Kids loved it! Easy & fun to make. 5 stars! Good
Sorry but there was no mention of when to add the garlic to the process. Is this done when adding the sauce?
Yes, the garlic is in the sauce ingredients.
Hi, can this be frozen?
yes you sure can.
This dish was amazing!! It came out better than i expected it taste better than most Chinese restaurants!!
Glad you loved it.
This was great. Easy and I had all the ingredients on hand. I do wish there was a little more sauce to help cover rice but that may have been an error in my end. I also added a TBS of low sodium soy sauce and it was a perfect addition to the flavor profile.
Perfect. I am glad you loved it.
This was sooo spicy for my family. It should be named sirracha honey chicken. Next time, if my family will ever try it again, I would do half the sirracha. So sad, I was looking forward to it and had to make another dinner for my husband and 10 year old.
sorry to hear that. I would definitely recommend using only 1 tablespoon if spice tolerance is low.
How do you suggest reheating this from frozen without microwave? Thanks!
You can also use the oven to reheat it. Transfer to an oven-safe dish and reheat in a preheated oven for 5-7 minutes.
Thank you for the well explanatory details,I definitely gave it a try and it’s the best
