If you’re looking for an easy meal-prep idea that doesn’t take all day to make, you’ll love this honey garlic chicken. It’s juicy, flavorful, ready in 30 minutes, and perfect for simple meal-prep bowls with broccoli and quinoa.

My kids love Asian Inspired dishes; whenever I make them, I can see the excitement on their faces. I don’t really blame them 🤓 These types of dishes can be so flavorful and keep the taste buds happy.
Juicy, tender chicken bites, cooked in a delicious honey-garlic sauce and served with sautéed broccoli on a bed of cooked quinoa. I love this recipe for meal prep because it comes together in about 30 minutes and makes four ready-to-go meals for the week. Meal prepping can be especially helpful for those who don’t have enough time to cook daily.
I have a lot of meal-prep recipes, and you may also like my Teriyaki chicken meal-prep recipe. It’s so good.
Why I like making this recipe
- Perfect for meal prepping: if you plan your meals this recipe is for you! It helps me stay on track when I plan.
- Easy to make: this chicken meal prep recipe is easy to make. It takes about 30 minutes total to prep and get this ready to go.
- Healthy: This chicken dish is so wholesome and a perfectly healthy meal. With the right amount of protein, carbs, and fiber.
Meal Prep Ideas for Honey Garlic Chicken
This chicken is one of my favorite meal prep ideas because you can cook everything ahead and divide it into individual containers. I like serving it with quinoa and broccoli, but you can easily switch things up throughout the week.
- Quinoa: Use brown rice, white rice, or couscous instead.
- Vegetables: Swap the broccoli for green beans, Brussels sprouts, carrots, or roasted vegetables.
- Protein: Use chicken thighs or shrimp instead of chicken breast.
- Sauce: Make a little extra honey garlic sauce to drizzle over the bowls before serving.
- Bowls: Add cucumber, shredded carrots, edamame, or cabbage for more variety.

Key Ingredients
- Oil: You can use avocado, olive oil, or groundnut oil
- Chicken breast, or you may also use boneless and skinless chicken thighs.
- Egg
- Cornstarch: or arrowroot powder
- Salt and pepper
- One head broccoli
- Sesame oil
- Quinoa: you can swap this with rice or couscous. Not sure how to make it? Check out my post on how to cook couscous.
- Honey: agave would also work.
- Sriracha sauce, or another hot sauce, but I prefer sriracha.
- Garlic cloves: Do use fresh garlic cloves.
- Rice wine vinegar
- To garnish: green onions, black or white sesame seeds

How To Make Honey Garlic Chicken Meal Prep
Prepare 2 bowls, one with beaten egg, and the second with cornstarch mixed with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Dip the chicken into the beaten egg. Place all the pieces in the cornstarch and toss to coat lightly and evenly.
Heat the oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces in a single layer without overlapping. Cook until golden brown on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.

In a medium bowl, whisk all the sauce ingredients. Pour sauce over the chicken and toss to coat, then set aside. Quickly wipe the pan clean with a paper towel, and add in the remaining oil.
Preheat skillet again, stir fry the broccoli until they start to brown. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper and set aside.

Add about 1/2 cup of cooked quinoa to each meal prep bowl. Divide the broccoli and chicken among your bowls and arrange over the quinoa.
Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and lime wedges. Refrigerate for up to 4 days. Serve cold or reheated, as desired.

How to Actually Meal Prep Honey Garlic Chicken
Make the chicken, broccoli, and quinoa as directed, then let everything cool slightly before dividing it between four meal prep containers. Add about ½ cup of quinoa to each container, followed by the broccoli and chicken. Store the containers in the refrigerator and reheat when you’re ready to eat.
Ways to Change Up Your Meal Prep Bowls
You don’t have to eat the exact same bowl four days in a row. Keep the honey garlic chicken as the base and switch up the sides.
- With rice: Swap the quinoa for white or brown rice.
- With vegetables: Try green beans, Brussels sprouts, carrots, or snap peas instead of broccoli.
- With noodles: Serve the chicken over rice noodles or soba noodles.
- With salad: Add the chicken to a big salad with cucumber, shredded carrots, and sesame seeds.
Recipe notes and tips
- Chicken: I prefer you to use lean chicken breast. But you may use boneless chicken thighs. you may switch the protein to either shrimp if you like.
- Broccoli: use fresh if possible. Frozen will also work. Don’t like broccoli? use any of your favorite veggies like green beans or Brussels sprouts.
- Oil: any oil works
- Quinoa: if you don’t like quinoa, you may use brown rice.
- Store these honey garlic chicken in containers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- This meal is slightly spicy but you may either add less sriracha or skip it completely.

Frequently asked questions
I love serving honey garlic chicken with some sort of veggies like broccoli, green beans, or Brussel sprouts, and a side of carbs like brown, quinoa, or roasted potatoes. You can get as creative as you like with what you serve it with. You can even try spaghetti.
To thicken the honey garlic sauce, I simply just coated the chicken with corn starch which will eventually blend in with the sauce. If the sauce is still on the thin side, you can mix about 2 tsp of cornstarch with water and add it to the sauce. Alternatively, you may use any flour.
Its better to season your chicken before cooking and allow it to marinade to get delicious tender and juicy chicken. Some may use marinate their chicken with spices as they cook the chicken in the pan which is also fine to do.
You can store these meal prep bowls in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep them covered in airtight containers and reheat until the chicken is warmed through.

Notes
- Note: I have edited this recipe to use one more tablespoon of cornstarch, for a total of 3 instead of 2. I am trying to limit this amount to keep it as healthy as possible. Feel free to add 4 tablespoons, which will be about 1/4 cup. Or you can mix 2 tbsp of cornstarch and 2 tbsp of flour.
- Chicken: I prefer you to use lean chicken breast. But you may use boneless chicken thighs. You may switch the protein to shrimp if you like. You can use 4 medium-sized chicken breasts or 3 large ones- about 1½ pounds (24 ounces / 680 g)
- Store the prepared meal prep bowls in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Swap the quinoa for white rice, brown rice, or couscous.
- Frozen broccoli can be used if you don’t have fresh.

So yummy! Just wondering, are the nutrition facts listed for 4 servings for 1 serving? (It didn’t specify or I might have missed it, so just asking for clarification & reference!!) thanks!! 🙂
Hi Iris. It’s per serving.
Oh that’s great news and fantastic news… I really appreciate and enjoy your articles always.
Thanks so much.
This honey garlic chicken recipe was super easy to make! The flavors were amazing and it was so juicy. Definitely a keeper for my meal prep!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you loved it.
Outstanding! I used rice as I am trying to avoid gluten (it’s SO hard). The broccoli sautéed beautifully. The star of the show was the chicken – so moist and just the right amount of sweetness and bite.
I did use jarred minced garlic – the sauce turned out well despite the laziness of the cook.
Glad you loved it.
Quinoa does not contain gluten.
Really tasty, just a tad spicy for us, so I will put 2 tbsp Sriracha next time.
Thanks for the feedback Amanda
Delicious and super easy to make! I used 1 tbsp sriracha because I don’t like much spiciness, but will likely increase that a bit next time. And used at least 2x the garlic because I always double or triple the garlic in recipes. I had about 22oz of chicken breasts (2 large breasts) and was able to just fit it in a large cast iron skillet, so you may need to use 2 skillets or cook in 2 batches, depending upon the size of your pan. In regards to the complaints about it taking too long, I didn’t find this to be case; yet l never take recipe times as a rule, as I know prep will almost always take me longer than someone who cooks and blogs about it for a living.
I typically try at least one new recipe a week, but this will certainly be added to the rotation of those I repeat.
Thanks for the feedback, Jamie. I am sure it will be so helpful for others. Glad you loved it.
This honey garlic recipe was so easy to follow and make. Flavours coming in together so well, I am definetly making it for dinner.
Glad you loved it. Thanks for the feedback.
I came across this recipe when doing an online search for easy, quick, healthy recipes, and was happy to find it gluten-free, as I have celiac disease. I plan to make it tomorrow night, but was just wondering, about how many ounces/pounds of chicken breast meat would you say you used for this? Four chicken breast could vary greatly in weight depending upon the size they are.
Hi, 4 chicken breasts are close to 2 lbs. You are right about the size. Mine were 1.88 lbs and that’s close to 28 ounces or so.
Awesome – thanks! My apologies for posting a similar comment just now… of course I saw your answer here after I posted that (so please delete). I’m planning to make this tonight, as plans changed earlier this week, so I’ll post a rating/comment after I’ve tried it.
No worries at all, Jamie. I hope you like it
