Expert tips
- Type of cottage cheese: You can definitely use low-fat cottage cheese, but the dip will be creamier and richer with full-fat cottage cheese. We like Good Culture or Nancy’s cottage cheese brands.
- Fresh garlic: Garlic powder is great because it distributes throughout the dip better than fresh. However, if you’d prefer to use fresh garlic, add 2 minced cloves of garlic. Taste and add a bit more, depending on your preference.
- Mincing the herbs: We recommend mincing the herbs before adding them to the blender to ensure that they are distributed evenly throughout the cottage cheese.
- Use dried herbs: Fresh herbs are more flavorful, however, if you’d prefer to use dried herbs, add 1 tsp instead of 1 tbsp of dill and mint and 2 tsp of parsley since dried herbs are more potent and can overwhelm the dip.
- Chill the dip: Cottage cheese dip is really delicious chilled for about 1 hour before serving. Also, dips, like this, that contain dairy shouldn’t be left out for more than 2 hours at room temperature. Serve it straight out of the fridge, and if it sits out for up to 2 hours, you can always cover it and put it back in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before enjoying it again.
Frequently asked questions
The minced herbs in this dip combine deliciously with the whipped cottage cheese. They add wonderful freshness and herby flavor. For a quick snack, we also like to mix veggies, nuts, fruit, or salsa with cottage cheese.
Some brands of cottage cheese tend to have more liquid in them, especially low-fat versions. Before adding it to the blender, if you notice your cottage cheese has an extra amount of liquid, try straining the cottage cheese before blending. Also, be sure not to over-blend the dip, because this can release more liquid. If this happens, try adding some more cottage cheese and blending briefly again, just enough to incorporate and thicken the mixture.

Serving suggestions
There are countless ways to serve this delicious dip! Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Dip: Serve with fresh-cut vegetables like carrot sticks, sliced cucumbers, bell pepper strips, celery, and radishes. Also, add pita chips, crackers, pretzels to the serving platter.
- Spread: Use this dip instead of mayo! Add this to sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and toast for extra flavor and creaminess.
- Dressing: You can whisk in a small amount of milk or buttermilk until you’ve reached desired consistency for dressing a salad or drizzling over a grain bowl.
Storage recommendations
Store any leftover cottage cheese dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to about 4 days. Be sure to give it a good stir before enjoying it again. We do not recommend freezing this because the cottage cheese will change texture.
