Don’t overcook it: If you use lean Ground chicken, it can dry out if you cook it too long. Cook it to an internal temperature of 165°F.
Add lots of seasoning: Ground chicken has a mild flavor, so don’t be afraid to use garlic, herbs, spices, and your favorite sauces.
Don’t overmix meatballs or burgers: Mix the ingredients just until combined to help keep them tender.
Keep your hands slightly wet: Ground chicken can be sticky. A little water or oil on your hands makes it easier to shape meatballs and burger patties.
Common Questions
Can I freeze cooked ground chicken?
Absolutely! Let it cool, then store it in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 3 months for the best quality. Thaw it in the fridge before reheating.
Can I use ground turkey instead of ground chicken?
Yes! Ground turkey works in many of these recipes. The flavor and texture may be a bit different, but it’s usually an easy swap.
How do I know when ground chicken is fully cooked?
Ground chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F. A meat thermometer is the easiest way to check, especially when making burgers or meatballs.
Can I make my own ground chicken?
Yes, absolutely! I do this all the time. You can easily make your own ground chicken using chicken breasts and a food processor. I sometimes like to mix in some chicken thighs because they have a little more fat, which makes the ground chicken juicier and more flavorful.
