Get the Chickpeas ready:

Drain and rinse the chickpeas in a colander. If desired you can peel them and discard the thin skin. But you certainly don’t need to peel the chickpeas.

Next, add chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic clove, water or ice cubes, cumin, olive oil, and salt to a high-powered blender. Blend the chickpeas on high for 30 seconds, pause once or twice to scrape the sides down. If the hummus seems too thick, add a tablespoon or two of water.

Plate the Hummus and Garnish:

Transfer the hummus into a large bowl, using the back of a large spoon to create swirls in the center. Taste the hummus and add in extra salt, cumin, and/or lemon juice if needed. Drizzle olive oil and a dash of paprika, if desired. Finally, you may add on any toppings that you would like, and enjoy!!

How long does homemade hummus last

Do not leave your homemade hummus on the counter for more than one hour. It is best to store your hummus in an airtight container in the fridge. Homemade hummus will last 5-7 days in the fridge.

Can you freeze homemade hummus

Yes. Freeze your homemade hummus in a tightly sealed container for up to 3 months. Remove the container 24 hours prior and leave it in the fridge to thaw before giving it a nice mix, garnish with some olive oil, and then serve.

Is Hummus Gluten-free

All ingredients used to make homemade hummus are gluten-free. So yes hummus is gluten-free. Also, look at the ingredients on the label of storebought hummus to make sure none of the ingredients added have gluten.

Is Hummus Vegan

Ingredients

  • ¼ Cup Lemon Juice (from 1 1⁄2 to 2 lemons), more to taste

  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
  • ½ Cup Tahini
  • ¾ Tsp Ground Cumin
  • 2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ¼ Cup water or 3 ice cubes

Optional Garnishes:

  • A drizzle of olive oil, sprinkle of paprika, chopped fresh parsley
