Recipe notes and tips
- Ideally, shred your cheese. Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents, so it doesn’t melt as well as freshly shredded.
- Slow cookers can vary in temp, so check in on your dip every 30 mins or so.
- You can halve this recipe for a smaller crowd.
- If the dip is too thick, add a tbsp of milk if needed.
- For an extra punch of flavor go for marinated artichoke hearts. Also, you can of course use canned artichoke hearts in water just make sure they’re drained.
- Serve warm with crackers, chips, veggies, whatever you like.
Frequently asked questions
You can use fresh or frozen spinach in this dip, fresh tends to taste richer and more flavorful. If you do use frozen, make sure to thoroughly drain/squeeze the water to avoid a watered-down dip.
Absolutely! Just make the recipe and once everything is melted and combined, transfer it to a container and refrigerate it for up to 3 days. Also, when you want to serve it, just put the dip back into the slow cooker and cook until it is heated all the way through again.
You can mix up the cheeses, try other combinations, like Mexican cheese.
If you want to amp things up even further, try adding in some cooked shrimp, crab, cooked chicken, or steak slices! Alternatively, if you like, sub the spinach for kale. Also, you can spice things up by adding hot sauce of red pepper flakes.
There’s plenty of options, here’s some ideas: Pita Crackers, Vegetables (celery, carrots, bell peppers), Tortilla Chips, Lightly Toasted Bread Cubes, and Ritz Crackers
