This recipe for homemade Copycat Cane’s Sauce requires just 5 minutes of hands-on prep, and is the perfect addition for spreading on burgers or as a dip for chicken fingers and fries!

Why it’s great
I love recreating restaurant dishes and sauces at home. It means we can enjoy those cravable flavors any time and also choose the quality of the ingredients going into them. This copycat version of the famous sauce from the Louisiana-founded fast-food restaurant, Raising Cane’s, is my latest addiction!
It’s such a simple recipe, you simply stir ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire sauce and some seasonings together. The key though is to let the mixed sauce sit in the fridge for at least 1-2 hours (if not overnight!) which makes a huge difference to how the sauce tastes.
Whether you’re serving it up with some crisp chicken tenders, homemade sweet potato fries or air-fried buffalo wings, it’s a great addition to all sorts of meals.
Recipe Overview
A Few Key Ingredients
Below are the key ingredients you’ll need to make Cane’s Sauce. The full quantities can be found in the recipe card further down the post.

Mayonnaise: Use a full-fat mayonnaise here for the best results. Light mayo can be used but the lower fat content will result in a less flavorful sauce. You can also swap the mayo for full-fat Greek yogurt although it will have a different taste.
Ketchup: Adds sweetness and acidity to balance the creamy mayo.
Worcestershire sauce: A secret weapon for the best homemade sauces! It adds a complex, savory note. If you don’t have any, soy sauce is the best substitute.
Garlic powder and black pepper: Garlic powder adds layers of savory flavor while ground black pepper is the key to achieving that ‘hint of spice’ flavor you find in the classic Cane’s sauce.
Recipe Variations
- Spicy Cane’s Sauce: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few drops of hot sauce for extra heat.
- Smoky Cane’s Sauce: Mix in a small amount of smoked paprika for a subtle smoky flavor.
- Lighter Version: Use light mayonnaise or a combination of mayonnaise and plain Greek yogurt.
How to Make Cane’s Sauce
Step 1. Place the mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and black pepper in a bowl and stir together until fully combined.

Step 2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 1-2 hours before serving.
Quick tip!
Chilling the sauce helps the flavors to mingle and infuse, producing a much more flavorful result!

Why You Should Let the Sauce Chill
For the best flavor, refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving. This gives the ingredients time to blend together and allows the pepper, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce to fully develop.
If you have time, letting the sauce chill for a few hours or overnight makes it even better.
Recipe Notes
- Storage: Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
- If you must swap Worcestershire sauce, use balsamic vinegar or soy sauce.
- For a healthier touch, you may swap the mayo for Greek Yogurt.
- Best served cold, the longer it sits the better the taste.
- For a spicy variation, you can up the amount of black pepper and/or add a dash of Tabasco hot sauce.
- For a tangier result, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the sauce.
- Feel free to scale up the recipe if making the dip to serve to a crowd!
Questions I Get Asked a Lot
Freezing isn’t recommended here as the mayonnaise can split and make the sauce watery.
Worcestershire sauce does sometimes contain gluten (e.g. from malt vinegar) so it’s best to check the label on the bottle, if needed. If you can’t find a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, you can use an equal amount of gluten-free tamari instead.
Yes. In fact, it’s best when made ahead since the flavors have time to develop.
Not exactly. While both sauces contain mayonnaise and ketchup, Cane’s Sauce has a more savory flavor thanks to Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and black pepper.
Make Ahead and Storage
This sauce is perfect for meal prep because the flavor improves as it sits.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir well before serving.
