TikTok made me do it! I had to make Whipped Coffee (Dalgona Coffee) Recipe after all the rage! So fun to whip it up together, so fluffy, easy to make, and takes about 5 minutes with a hand mixer. Have fancy coffee in the comfort of your home.
The Whipped coffee rage started on TikTok where it originally got viral and now it’s all over. My kids have made this so many times too and we have been using caffeine free coffee which works just fine. It only needs 3 ingredients to make with equal parts of instant coffee, granulated sugar, and hot or boiling water.
I have made this Whipped coffee recipe using both granulated sugar and tried a healthier version using maple syrup to see what the difference is. Using granulated sugar will make the whipped coffee froth lighter in color and stays fluffy longer. The fluffy coffee does dissolve quicker using maple syrup and would have to be served immediately but it is a healthier alternative to using sugar.
Summary
- Fun: I thought this was a super fun and cool concept.
- Easy: All you need is 5 minutes and 3 ingredients.
- Tasty: Skip Starbucks and make coffee at home. It is just as tasty.
Ingredients for Whipped Coffee

Jump to Recipe- Instant coffee: Any will work. I usually use the Nescafe brand. They happen to also have a caffeine-free one that I use for the kids.
- Granulated Sugar (like cane, coconut, or brown sugar): any will work
- Boiling water: or it can be hot. Do not use cold or luke warm water.

- In a mixing bowl, add the instant coffee, Sugar (we used maple syrup), vanilla and hot/boiling water.
- Whisk on medium-high for 5-8 minutes, or until super fluffy and caramel-looking.
- To assemble the iced coffee, add ice and milk of choice to a cup.
- Top with whipped coffee and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Whipped coffee is a more common name that has been used on TikTok for Dalgona Coffee which is what it’s actually called. It originated in South Korea but also popular in other countries like Greece where its called Frappe Coffee or India where it is referred to as beaten coffee. Many other cultures know of this “whipped Coffee” but recently became popular over TikTok and it’s now all the rage.
Yes, you can. We actually tested this and it works but the froth does not hold for long and it will start dissolving in 2-3 minutes. If you like the froth to linger longer we suggest you use granulated sugar. Any would work if you would like to use brown, cane, or coconut sugar.
You can still make this whipped coffee if you don’t have an electric hand mixer. You can use a hand frother or hand whisk instead. The electric hand mixer will help it froth/whip much faster and will take about 5 minutes or so. We used a hand mixer once and it took about 12 minutes and a decent arm workout! But it will still work!
Whipped coffee can be served both hot and cold. To serve it hot, warm your milk of choice, add in a cup, and top with whipped coffee using a spoon. To serve it cold, add ice into a cup, then add any milk of choice and spoon in the whipped coffee. It is best to mix in the coffee with the milk for the best result.
My Pro Tip
Recipe Tips and Substitutes
- For a Vegan option, use non-dairy milk like coconut or almond milk.
- You can Serve hot or cold.
- 1 tablespoon of each ingredient will make one cup/ one serving. So 4 tablespoons will make 4 servings
- Sugars that can be used to make this whipped coffee recipe are white, brown, cane, or coconut. So long as it is granulated sugar to allow the froth to last longer. Monk fruit sugar works as well.
- You may use maple syrup as we did for a healthier alternative, but the fluff won’t last for hours like it would using sugar and you need to serve it immediately.
- You have to use instant coffee and unfortunately, other forms won’t work.
- Vanilla extract is optional.
- Use an electric mixer, hand mixer, or frother.
- If using maple syrup serve immediately. If using granulated sugar you may save the whipped coffee in the fridge for a few hours Until ready to serve.
