Ingredients for Healthy Chicken Wings
- Chicken wings: Two pounds of an assortment of bone-in wings are the best in our opinion because they are juicy, tender, and crispy at the same time after they have been baked.
- Oil: Olive oil is rich in flavor and absorbs the seasoning mix well.
- Seasoning mix: Kosher salt, cornstarch, ground pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder are combined to create robust savory elements to the exterior of the wings.
Chicken Wing Seasoning: Honey Garlic Sauce
- Soy sauce: Low-sodium soy sauce is what we like to use because it is healthier and just as flavorful without all the extra salt. Liquid coconut aminos or tamari are also great to use.
- Honey: Sweet honey or maple syrup can be used to create the sweet flavor profile for this chicken wings recipe.
- Tomato passata: Also known are tomato purée, tomato passata is thicker and richer in flavor and great to use for all types of savory dishes. Rich tomato flavors are delicious with the garlic.
- Sesame seed oil: Toasted sesame seed oil provides an extra layer of earthy flavor and coats the wings as they sizzle in the oven.
- Garlic powder: Rich garlic powder is the key ingredient for these baked chicken wings and creates a perfect balance with the honey. You may use fresh garlic cloves if you prefer.
- Optional: Freshly chopped parsley for garnishment.

These were soooo good!! Made it exactly as written with the 1/4 cup tomato paste and the flavor is just perfect. Definitely a repeat!
Thanks for the feedback Jenna
This recipe was okay but I agree with other reviewโฆโฆtoo much tomato paste.
Was this a typo?
I used 1/2 cup tomato passata which is lighter than tomato paste. You would need 1/4 cup of tomato paste yes.
What is going on? I just left a detailed comment that was negative but polite. I have never commented on this website and certainly not about the wings I made 2 days ago. It responded with I had already made this comment and discarded it. Really?!!!
Hi there. I assure it I didn’t discard it. I just got a moment to look at the comments and approve them. I haven’t been able to do it. Life is hectic. I see your comment and approved it. Thanks for the feedback. It’s always appreciated.
Hi, I made this recipe and followed the directions exactly. Very disappointed. I think the 1/2 cup of tomato paste is a mistake The glaze became a thick, gloppy, tomatoey
barbeque sauce that wasn’t very tasty. It made a ridiculously large quantity that made the wings soggy. They looked very different from your photos. No honey taste and even the garlic was barely there.
Silver lining: I made a lentil soup with veges using some of the sauce as part of the base. Turned out great!
Wow! These were really good! The recipe differed from most Iโd tried. The cornstarch made a big difference in the rub (really crispy, but still moist wings) and I used ketchup instead of tomato paste in the sauce. Definitely make these again.
Oh yay. Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for including what you substituted the tomato paste with, just realized I didn’t have any, but still wanted to try this recipe.
I thought chicken wings have a medium hot chile Mexican sauce, for instance Tabasco, or cayenne Chile powder.
Any suggestions you could provide ASAP? You recipe sounds very yummy!
Please give me a suggestion. We will be so grateful.
Thank you from my heart.
Love to all from Gloria Leon.
Hi. You can use any spice of your choice. I would just use cayenne or Sriracha sauce.
What is tomato passata? Is that supposed to be paste?
Yes. I fixed that
How much is each serving
This recipe looks delicious. I want to try this recipe but Iโm allergic to sesame. What can I use instead of sesame oil?
Hi there. Any oil of choice would work.
Hi. Recipe sounds yummy. But I don’t have tomato paste. Can I use tomatoe sauce.
Yes sure. Consistency/color will vary slightly
You have 30 minutes to bake the chicken wings. That’s not enough time. Mine still have blood running out of them. So I’ll do mine about an hour.
