Peaches come in different varieties and sizes, and if you’ve ever been to a farmers’ market, then you’ve seen the different options to choose from. I love using peaches in baked goods, overnight oats like this peaches and cream overnights, oatmeal, bread, and salads.

Next, grab a peach and, with a knife, carefully slice down the peach while cutting around the stone. Cut all the way down to the bottom of the peach.

Next, with your hands, pull apart the peach into two halves as shown below. The stone will still be intact within the fruit.

Carefully, remove the pit with your fingers or knife, then discard it. Next, place the peach flat on the cutting board and begin slicing it into individual slices.

Peach Varieties

There are two main types of peaches: freestone and clingstone. The above tutorial is for freestone peaches, as the pit is much easier to remove. Clingstone peaches have stones (pits) that are more difficult to remove.

Common Problems and Solutions

  • The Peach is too firm: If this is the case, let it sit at room temperature for a day or two on your kitchen counter before cutting.
  • If the peach is very soft, use a very sharp knife and gentle pressure. This will help not mush it up into a mess.
  • The pit is stuck: If it is hard to lift the pit, cut the peach into sections around it and remove the slices piece by piece.
