Ingredients for honey glazed air fryer salmon

How to make air fryer salmon

  • Make the marinade. First, whisk soy sauce, oil, salt, and pepper to a small mixing bowl.
  • Marinade the salmon. Pour the dressing over the salmon fillets, then gently rub all over the fish. Allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat. Meanwhile preheat the air fryer to 425°F.
  • Cook the salmon. Place the fillets into the air fryer basket, skin side down, and cook at 400°F for 8 minutes.
  • Brush with sauce. Lightly brush with honey, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and chili flakes. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Serve. Serve this honey glazed salmon recipe with your favorite side, like rice, and enjoy!

Recipe notes

  • Salmon: Use fresh, high-quality salmon. You may use skin-on or skinless salmon filets.
  • Sesame oil: You can also use olive oil, grape seed oil, or avocado oil as well. However, sesame oil adds an extra depth of flavor.
  • Honey: You can substitute maple syrup if needed.
  • Chili flakes: The slight spice balances the sweet honey, but they can be left out if desired.
  • Use the same size filets. This will help the salmon cook evenly.
  • Don’t overcrowd the baskets. If the salmon is all touching or overlapping, it won’t get crispy on the edges. Also, cook in two batches if needed.
  • Don’t overcook it. The cooking time depends on the thickness of the filets and the specific air fryer. Check the doneness with a fork. Salmon is done when it is opaque and easily flakes.

Common Questions

What temperature Should Salmon be cooked?

The recommendation from the FDA is to cook the salmon to an internal temperature of 145°F. To measure this temperature, insert a food thermometer in the thickest part of the salmon filet until it reads at least 140-145 °F.

How long is cooked salmon good for?

Try to cook fresh fish within 1-2 days of buying. Once cooked, store the salmon in an airtight container for up to 3 days. You can then reheat it or add it to salads and quinoa bowls for a quick lunch.

Can you freeze cooked salmon?

Allow the salmon to cool completely, then store it in an airtight container or wrap it in tinfoil. Freeze for up to three months. When ready, thaw overnight in the fridge, then reheat until warmed through.

How long to cook salmon in the air fryer?

This will depend on the thickness of the salmon filet at the temperature you are cooking it. At 400F the salmon will need about 8-9 minutes. If you are cooking the salmon at 375 F it may need about 10-12 minutes depending on its thickness.

  1. Do I need to brush the non skin part of the salmon with honey? And do I need to flip the salmon in the air fryer at any point?

    1. Hi. You will place the salmon filets skin side down and then brush honey over the top of the salmon (the nonskin part yes). You do not need to flip the salmon

  2. It says pre-heat to 425 and then cook at 400 for 8 mins. Do I just turn the temperature down when I put the fish in? Double checking because I’ve never pre-heated to a different temperature than I’m cooking at before
