The Smoothie My Kids Ask for Every Single Morning

With 5 kids in the house, mornings are a lot. Everyone wants something different, someone is always running late, and the last thing I have time for is making five separate breakfasts. This smoothie is one of those recipes that just works for everyone.

I throw everything into the blender, pour it into cups, and done. No complaints, no negotiations. My kids love the color, they love the taste, and I love that they are getting real fruit and protein from the Greek yogurt without even realizing it. That is a win in my book. Sometimes I will sneak in a scoop of vanilla Protein powder too and they can’t even tell!

a cup of smoothie that's almost purple looking.

The Greek yogurt is what makes this one stand out from a basic fruit smoothie. It makes it extra creamy and adds enough protein to actually keep you full. A little drizzle of honey or agave balances out the tartness from the blueberries and you are left with something that tastes way more indulgent than it actually is.

My one non-negotiable? Use frozen fruit when you can. It makes the smoothie thick and cold without watering it down with too much ice.

Key Ingredients

strawberry blueberry smoothie ingredients.

You only need 5 simple ingredients: milk, frozen blueberries, fresh strawberries, vanilla Greek yogurt, and a little honey or agave to sweeten it up.

A few things worth mentioning:

  • Greek yogurt is the star here. Use a non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt for the best flavor and creaminess. Two small tubs (about 10.6 oz total) is exactly the right amount. It adds protein, thickness, and a subtle sweetness that makes this smoothie feel more like a treat.
  • Frozen blueberries work best. They chill the smoothie naturally and give it that deep purple color. Fresh blueberries work too, just add a handful of ice to compensate.
  • Honey or agave is optional but recommended. Berries can be tart depending on the season. A small drizzle of either one pulls everything together perfectly.

How to Make a Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

This could not be simpler. One blender, five ingredients, five minutes. That is the whole thing.

berries, yogurt, and all other smoothie ingredients added to a blender.

Add all your ingredients to a high speed blender. If using fresh fruit instead of frozen, toss in about a cup of ice cubes to get that thick, cold texture.

Blend everything until completely smooth. If it looks too thick, add a small splash of milk and blend again for another few seconds.

Pour into two glasses and serve right away. Add a fresh strawberry on the rim or a handful of granola on top if you want to make it feel a little extra.

🍓 If your blender is struggling to blend the frozen fruit, just let it sit for a couple of minutes first to soften slightly. It makes a big difference!

Ways to Serve It and Switch It Up

This smoothie works any time of day. We have it for breakfast on busy school mornings, as an after school snack, and honestly sometimes as dessert when the kids are asking for something sweet after dinner.

If you want to switch things up, try swapping the blueberries for mango and check out my Mango Smoothie for inspo, or blend in a spoonful of peanut butter for something more filling like my Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie. And if you are making this alongside something fresh and bright, my Mixed Berry Salad pairs really well with it for a light summer lunch.

Questions I Get Asked Alot

Can I make this smoothie dairy-free?

Absolutely. Use your favorite dairy-free milk and swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy-free yogurt alternative.

What can I add for more protein?

You can add a scoop of vanilla protein powder, chia seeds, or extra Greek yogurt.

Do I need to add honey?

Not necessarily. If your fruit is sweet enough, you can leave the honey out or adjust it to your taste.

Can I add other fruits?

Yes. Banana, mango, or raspberries all work well in this smoothie.

Recipe Notes

  • Make it dairy free: Swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy free coconut yogurt and use oat milk or almond milk.
  • Sweetness: If your berries are really ripe and sweet, you may not need the honey or agave at all. Taste it first.
  • Storage: This smoothie is best enjoyed fresh. If you have leftovers, store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 1 day. Give it a good shake or stir before drinking.
  • Boost the protein: Add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to make it even more filling.
