This Mango Chia Seed Smoothie is thick, creamy, and naturally sweet from frozen mango. Made with Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and almond milk, it blends in just a few minutes. I love it for a quick breakfast or afternoon snack.

Smoothies are one of the easiest things for me to make when I’m busy and need something quick. As a mom of five, I also love having easy snacks that my kids can make themselves. Life gets exhausting, and since they’re all teenagers now, they should start learning the basics. Like smoothies!
The mango makes this one naturally thick and sweet, while Greek yogurt and chia seeds make it a little more filling than a basic fruit smoothie. Most of the time, I don’t even need the honey because ripe mango is sweet enough on its own.
A quick nutrition note
As a certified nutrition coach, I like that this smoothie isn’t just fruit and juice. The Greek yogurt provides protein, while chia seeds add fiber and fats, which can make the smoothie more satisfying.
Recipe Overview
Key Ingredients
Full ingredients measurements and ingredients are listed further down below

- Frozen mango: I prefer frozen mango because it makes the smoothie cold and creamy without needing much ice. Fresh mango will work too, but you’ll probably want to add the optional ice.
- Greek yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt keeps the sweetness under control and adds protein. Vanilla Greek yogurt works too if you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
- Chia seeds: You can add chia seeds directly to the blender. There’s no need to soak them first.
- Almond milk: Unsweetened almond milk keeps things simple, but any milk you normally use will work.
- Honey or maple syrup: I would blend everything first and taste it before adding either one. Depending on how sweet your mango is, you may not need it.
How To Make a Mango Chia Seed Smoothie
Add the liquids first. Pour the almond milk into the blender, followed by the Greek yogurt. Adding the liquid first helps everything blend more easily.
Add the rest. Add the frozen mango, chia seeds, vanilla, and honey or maple syrup if using.

Blend. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
Adjust the texture. For a thicker, colder smoothie, add the ice and blend again. If it’s too thick, add another splash of milk.
Optional Tip: You can drink it right away or let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes to give the chia seeds a little time to soften.

Do chia seeds need to be soaked first?
No. For this smoothie, you can add the chia seeds straight into the blender.
Letting the finished smoothie sit for a few minutes gives the chia seeds time to absorb some liquid and soften, and that’s completely optional and can be skipped.
How to get the texture just right
Smoothies are easy to adjust, so don’t worry too much about exact consistency.
- Too thick? Add a couple of tablespoons of milk at a time.
- Too thin? Add more frozen mango or a few ice cubes.
- Not sweet enough? Add a little honey or maple syrup.
- Too sweet? Use plain Greek yogurt and skip the added sweetener.
If the smoothie sits for a while and becomes too thick because of the chia seeds, simply stir in a splash of milk.
Easy ways to change it up
- Add banana: Half of a frozen banana will make it even creamier and sweeter.
- Add pineapple: Mango and pineapple work really well together. Replace some of the mango with frozen pineapple.
- Add more protein: Greek yogurt already adds protein, but you can also blend in your favorite protein powder if you use one. I would go with vanilla protein powder.
- Add greens: A handful of baby spinach, which blends easily into smoothies without adding much flavor.
- Make it dairy-free: Use a dairy-free yogurt along with your favorite plant-based milk.
- Add lime: A squeeze of fresh lime juice is really good with mango and helps balance the sweetness.

Common Questions
Absolutely. Regular dairy milk, oat milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, or another milk of choice will work.
You can, but chia seeds continue absorbing liquid as they sit, so the smoothie will become much thicker in the refrigerator. I prefer it freshly blended.
If you do make it ahead, refrigerate it in a covered container and stir or blend in a little extra milk before drinking.
Yes. Use your favorite dairy-free yogurt if you want to keep the creamy texture. You can also leave the yogurt out, but you’ll likely need less milk, and the smoothie won’t be quite as creamy.
Yes. Frozen mango makes the smoothie thicker and colder, but fresh mango works too. Add the optional ice to get a similar consistency.
That’s the chia seeds doing their job. They absorb liquid and form a gel as they sit. Add another splash of milk and stir or blend again until you reach the consistency you like.
