I started making celery juice when I wanted something simple and refreshing first thing in the morning that didn’t feel heavy. Some mornings I just don’t feel like protein shakes so this always comes in handy. I’ll be honest, plain celery on its own isn’t my favorite, so adding a bit of green apple and lime made a big difference for me.

Ingredients I Used

Below are the ingredients you’ll need to make Celery Juice. The full quantities can be found in the recipe card further down the post.

ingredients to make homemade celery juice.
  • Celery: High in water content, making it great for juicing. Choose organic, if possible, and scrub well to remove any dirt from the stalks.
  • Lime: Brings a bright, tart note that rounds out the flavor of the celery. Lemon also works great.
  • Green apple: Keeps the juice green while adding a mild sweetness to balance the flavors.
  • Water: Needed if using a blender to make the juice to help the blades blitz up the ingredients.

How to Make Celery Juice- Juicer Vs Blender

Below I discuss how to make celery juice using a blender and a juicer. I mostly use a juicer since it is what I have and I find it easier but you can totally use a blender as well.

prepping the celery and the green apples to make juice.

Prep the celery. Trim the top and bottom end of the celery. Thoroughly wash the celery to remove all soil and debris. Scrub each one under running water with your fingers.

Juicer: Run the chopped celery, apples, and lime through the feeding tube of the juicer. You do not need water if using a juicer. Serve immediately, or place in a jar in the fridge to cool and serve.

How to make it using a Blender:

  • To a high-powered blender, add all the ingredients, including the water to help it blend smoothly. Let it blend thoroughly for 2-3 minutes.
  • Strain: Pour the liquid through a nut milk bag or mesh strainer to remove all the pulp. Serve immediately or store in the lidded jar or container and use within 3 days.

Variations & Tips

  • Celery-Cucumber: you can add some cucumbers. Depending on the size, use 1 to 2.
  • Celery-Ginger: Add a 1-inch chunk of ginger.
  • Celery-Turmeric: Add 1 small piece fresh turmeric.
  • Wash everything really well since dirt can hide at the base of the stalks and apple crevices.
  • You can leave the skin on the lime when juicing but it’s best to remove it when making in the blender. If you leave the skin on when blending, it can make the juice bitter.
  • Drink it fresh for the best flavor and texture.
  • Serve the juice chilled or poured over ice for the most refreshing sip.

Common Questions

How do I store it?

Store in the lidded jar or container in the fridge and drink within 3 days.

Can I freeze it?

You can freeze the juice in a lidded container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and shake well before drinking.

Should I keep the leaves on the celery?

You can, the leaves have a rich celery flavor which will make the juice taste stronger. But keep in mind, sometimes the leaves can make the celery juice more bitter. Using fresh stalks helps.

What does celery juice taste like?

Celery juice has a clean, light, refreshing flavor. The celery brings that classic ‘green’ flavor, green apple brings some sweetness and the lime juice balances with a slightly tart flavor.

Do I need a juicer to make celery juice?

No. You can blend chopped celery with a little water, then strain it.
