Helpful Soup Tips

Here are some tips you may find helpful

How to store and reheat soup:
Let your soup cool completely, then store it in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days.

How to reheat leftover soup:
When it’s time to reheat your soup, warm it gently in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat. If the soup has thickened in the fridge and you would like to thin it out, just add a splash of broth or water to loosen it up.

How to freeze leftover soup:
Most broth-based soups freeze really well. I suggest that you pour the cooled soup into freezer-safe containers or bags and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, thaw it in the fridge overnight and heat it on the stove or microwave.

How to add more protein or veggies:
If there is a soup recipe that you enjoy and would like to add more protein to, simply stir in shredded chicken, cooked ground turkey, beans, lentils, or tofu to make it more filling.

Common Question

How long do soups last in the fridGe?

Most soups stay fresh for up to 3 to 4 days when stored in an airtight container. If the soup has any seafood, I recommend storing it for up to 2 days only.

What sides should i serve with soup?

I like serving warm bread like homemade dinner rolls, simple salads, grilled cheese, roasted veggies, or even baked potato soups. Stick with something light if your soup is hearty, and something more filling if your soup is on the lighter side.

Can I freeze soups?

Yes. Most soups can be frozen for up to 2 months. Soups with broth, tomatoes, beans, and most veggies hold up great in the freezer. Soups with cream can be frozen too, but once reheated, the texture may change slightly.

How do I reheat soups?

There are two ways you can reheat soup. For a single serving, I like to use the microwave and reheat at 30-second increments. For a large amount, thaw the soup ahead of time in the fridge, then use a saucepan and reheat on your stove over medium heat. If the soup has thickened a bit, you can add a bit of water or broth to loosen it up.
