How to make Carne Asada Steak Bowl

The flank steaks for this carne asada bowl was made simply by searing the steaks with only salt and pepper since all the flavors will come from everything else that’s added into making the bowl. Simple steps to follow:

  • First, heat 1 tsp oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until it’s done to your liking. Place steak on a cutting board and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. Using a very sharp knife, slice it across the grain.
  • Then, to the same pan in which we cooked the steak add 1 Tbsp of oil. Add cooked brown rice and seasonings, and stir fry for about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to your taste and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, add beans, tomatoes, onion, and avocado. Drizzle with remaining oil, lime juice and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Divide lettuce among 2 bowls and top with bean salad, steak, and fried rice. Garnish with lime wedges and fresh cilantro and enjoy!

How to season Carne Asada

The most common marinades used for carne asada have the following: lime, cilantro or parsley, vinegar, orange juice, salt & pepper, oil, jalapeno, garlic, and cumin. There are different variations of the marinade but in all, what’s important is bringing out authentic Mexican flavors. For our Carne Asada steak recipe, we simply used salt and pepper since the flavors are all added into the bowl with other ingredients.

Notes:

If you like your steaks more marinated, in a Ziploc bag, add:

  • chopped cilantro, half a handful
  • 1 lime juice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • minced garlic or about 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup vinegar

Allow it to marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then cook either over your stovetop or using an outdoor grill if weather permits.
