Tips for Cooking & Baking with Pumpkin

  • Do not confuse canned pumpkin puree with pumpkin pie filling. They are completely different and will mess up your recipes.
  • If you have leftover pumpkin puree, you can store it in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 4 days to use it for other pumpkin recipes you plan on making. You can also freeze for up to 2 months and thaw when ready to use again.
  • Flavor profile for pumpkin almost always works with warm spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, and pairs well with chocolate when making desserts.
  • Canned pumpkin vs. fresh pumpkins? It’s really what you prefer. For soups, I like to bake fresh pumpkins, but for most recipes, canned pumpkin puree works just fine. Either one will be fine, and it comes down to personal preference.
