How To Make This Homemade Nutella Recipe

Prepare Hazelnuts: If using raw hazelnuts, preheat the oven and toast them until they turn golden. Once cooled, remove the skin by rubbing them together, keeping some skin for added texture.

Blend Hazelnuts: Using a high-powered blender or food processor, blend the hazelnuts until they reach a smooth consistency, ensuring a creamy base for the homemade Nutella recipe.

Make The Healthy Nutella: Add cocoa powder, vanilla extract, coconut sugar (or preferred sweetener), salt, and coconut oil to the blended hazelnuts. Blend the mixture until it transforms into a smooth and creamy Nutella-like texture.

Expert Tips

  • When toasting hazelnuts, ensure they are evenly spread on the baking sheet for uniform roasting. Rotate the pan halfway through to avoid uneven browning
  • While rubbing hazelnuts to remove skins, don’t worry about getting every bit off. Leaving some skin adds a rustic texture to the Nutella.
  • Use short pulses when initially blending hazelnuts to prevent overheating. Scrape down the sides of the blender or food processor as needed to achieve a smooth consistency.
  • Taste the Nutella during the blending process and adjust sweetness to your liking by adding more sweetener if needed.

frequently asked questions

Can I use pre-roasted hazelnuts instead of raw ones?

Yes, you can use pre-roasted hazelnuts to save time. Just ensure they are not overly salted or flavored. If they are salted, you may want to omit or cut back on the salt that you add.

How do I know when hazelnuts are properly roasted?

Roast hazelnuts until they turn golden brown and give off a nutty aroma. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-browning.

Can I make a larger batch?

Yes, you can scale up the recipe based on your needs. Jut make sure your blender or food processor can accommodate the increased quantity.
