Ingredients Needed
This recipe is made by using a combination of simple ingredients that come together for major deliciousness! Full measurements are listed further down below. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Cottage cheese: The base of the dip that will blend into a smooth and creamy mixture.
- Lemon juice: Adds brightness.
- Garlic powder: One teaspoon of garlic powder gives the dip a savory taste that is a must in any ranch dip.
- Onion powder: For a subtle onion flavor without being overwhelming.
- Dried parsley: Adds an earthy depth of flavor.
- Dill: Use fresh or dried dill for a refreshing ranch flavor.
- Salt & pepper: To bring all the flavors together.
How to Make It!
In no time at all, you’ll have an incredible snack that works great as a dip, spread, or even dressing!
- Blend: Add all the ingredients into a high-powered blender or food processor. Securely cover the blender and blend until smooth.
- Adjust consistency: If the dip is too thick, you may add 2 tablespoons of water and blend again until you have a whipped dip consistency. You may do this step again if you prefer your dip a bit runny.
- Adjust seasonings: Taste and add more salt and pepper, if needed. The flavor will deepen and incorporate more as it sits in the fridge for a few hours.
- Chill: Place the whipped dip in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for 1-2 hours before serving it with your favorite veggies, crackers, or chips.
My Pro Tip
Helpful Tips
- Type of cottage cheese: You can definitely use low-fat cottage cheese, but the dip will be creamier and richer with full-fat cottage cheese. We like Good Culture or Nancy’s cottage cheese brands.
- Make it a spread: Not only is this a tasty, creamy dip, but it works so well as a spread for sandwiches, wraps or burgers!
- Make it a dressing: To take this from dip to high-protein salad dressing, simply whisk in milk or buttermilk until you’ve reached desired consistency.
- Serving: If you’re serving this as a dip, it’s great with fresh-cut vegetables like carrots, celery, radishes, and cucumber, plus pita chips, crackers, pretzels and more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can substitute with an equal amount of plain greek yogurt. Just keep in mind that the dip will have a more tart flavor than if using cottage cheese.
Many low-fat versions of cottage cheese contain more liquid. Before adding it to the blender, if you notice your cottage cheese has an extra amount of liquid, try straining the cottage cheese before blending. Also, be sure not to over-blend, because this can release more liquid. If this happens, try adding some more cottage cheese and blending briefly again, just enough to incorporate and thicken the mixture.
Dips that contain dairy (like this one) shouldn’t be left out for more than 2 hours at room temperature. Serve it straight out of the fridge, and if it sits out for up to 2 hours, you can always cover it and put it back in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before enjoying it again.
Storage Recommendations
Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Make sure you don’t leave it at room temperature for longer than 2 hours.
