My kids love it when I make anything with berries. Especially when I make them this berry cobbler, which they love to enjoy with vanilla ice cream. I personally love having mine with some yogurt. Whichever way you serve it, it’s so good.

You’ll love this recipe because:

  • It’s a great make-ahead option – get it baked and ready to warm up ahead of time.
  • It comes out golden and delicious on top and juicy, and bubbly underneath.
  • My cobbler with berries is so simple to make – you won’t even need to take out a mixer!

Recipe notes

  • Mix the berries gently to prevent crushing them too much.
  • I like to spread the topping over evenly, leaving some space for the luscious berries to bubble through.
  • Cool for 5 minutes before serving the berry cobbler. This time lets the ingredients set a little.
  • You want the topping to be golden brown and delicious and the berries sticky and bubbly – don’t whip it out of the oven too soon.

Frequently asked questions

Why must I use frozen and not thawed berries?

Keeping them frozen prevents extra water seeping out and making the cobbler too runny.

can i make this berry cobbler ahead to save time?

Yes, absolutely! Make it up to 24 hours ahead of serving it and then warm it in the oven (covered).

How should I store leftover berry cobbler?

Pop it in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap or in a sealed container. It will keep for about 3 days. Crisp up the topping before serving it again.

Can I use a different topping?

Yup! Make a cake batter to pour over or use a streusel-type topping instead.

Can I use any other fruits?

Yes. Feel free to use any other fruits you prefer, like frozen peaches.

Storing and Reheating

  • Store: You can store leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 4 days. If you want to go ahead and free it, it will freeze well for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: I like to reheat leftovers in the microwave for 30-45 seconds or so. It depends on the amount you are reheating. You may also reheat in a preheated oven at 350F for 8-10 minutes.

Mixed Berry Cobbler

a white dish with berry cobbler topped with a bit of vanilla icecream.
Cozy, warm, and satisfying, my berry cobbler is pure joy. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 6 cups frozen mixed berries, about two 10-oz bags (do not thaw!)

Topping:

  • 2/3 cup quick oats
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
  • vanilla yogurt ice cream, optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.

To make the filling:

  • In a large bowl, add 1 tablespoon orange zest, 1/2 cup honey, and 2 tablespoons cornstarch and whisk until combined. Stir in the 6 cups frozen mixed berries. It will be difficult to mix well because the honey will quickly harden in contact with the frozen berries. That's ok; we will mix it well later on.
  • Transfer to the baking dish and bake for 12-15 minutes.

Meanwhile, make the topping:

  • Combine all the topping ingredients in a mixing bowl (2/3 cup quick oats, 2/3 cup all-purpose flour, 2/3 cup coconut sugar, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/2 cup coconut oil) With your clean hands, mix thoroughly between your fingers to create a texture similar to wet sand.
  • Remove the dish from the oven, stir the berry mix well, then sprinkle the topping over.
  • Return to the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the berry sauce is bubbly.
  • Serve with vanilla yogurt ice cream or yogurt. Enjoy.

Notes

  • Serve warm with froyo or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
  • You may use any other frozen fruits of your choice.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Serve warm or cold.
