15-Minute BBQ Shrimp

This juicy BBQ shrimp recipe is very easy and simple to make. It makes for a quick and easy addition to your dinner table, and perfect to add over salads, tacos. Takes just 15 minutes to get these ready to go.

If you love shrimp, this will be one of your favorite shrimp recipes to add to your weekly menu. It Pretty much calls for 3 ingredients to make this BBQ shrimp: raw shrimp, olive oil, and BBQ sauce. We put together our own homemade BBQ sauce but you can simply use your favorite BBQ sauce to make this easy and healthy shrimp recipe. The raw shrimp is cooked over medium heat until it starts turning pink for about 4-5 minutes. This easy BBQ shrimp recipe is perfect for those in a pinch to make dinner or just need a quick and easy lunch.

Ingredients you will need

To make this BBQ you simply need 3 main ingredients. BBQ sauce, shrimp, and oil. But to make my homemade BBQ sauce here is a list of ingredients you will need. Full measurements are founf further down below.

For the BBQ sauce/marinade:

organic ketchup
olive oil
honey or maple syrup
lime
chili powder
paprika
hot sauce
salt and pepper

For the Shrimp:

olive oil
raw shrimp
fresh parsley

How to make bbq shrimp from scratch

  • First, make the BBQ sauce: In a small bowl combine all BBQ sauce ingredients.
  • Next, combine shrimp with BBQ sauce: Place the shrimp into a ziploc bag and add in half of the BBQ sauce. Stir through the bag to completely coat. Reserve the remaining sauce untouched to use later on.
  • Then, cook the shrimp: Heat the 2 teaspoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated shrimp to a single layer. Cook undisturbed for about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another minute or so, until pink and opaque.
  • Toss more sauce on cooked shrimp: Drizzle over the remaining BBQ sauce and allow it to heat up, tossing to coat the shrimp.
  • Finally, garnish with chopped parsley and serve.

  • Use raw shrimp instead of pre-cooked shrimp. Do not overcook the shrimp because it will end up dry and rubbery in texture.
  • Cook over medium heat and not high heat.
  • Use any oil you have available. Avocado oil or grapeseed oil would make great substitutes.
  • Make our homemade sauce instead of store-bought. But if you do have a great BBQ sauce that’s low in sugar you would like to use, you may use that instead.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • You may marinate the shrimp with the BBQ sauce in a ziplock bag and freeze for up to 3 months until ready to cook.
  • Place these BBQ shrimp on skewers and grill outdoors if preferred.

How long does it take to cook shrimp?

It is important to pay close attention to shrimp as you cook them become they cook pretty quickly. Shrimp only needs to be cooked 2-3 minutes on each side. You can tell the shrimp is done when it starts curling up and turn pink or opaque.

Why does my shrimp taste rubbery?

If your shrimp is chewy and rubbery it means you overcooked it. They don’t need much time to cook so as soon as they start turning pink and curl up turn off the heat or remove them from the grill.

How to store BBQ shrimp?

place your leftover shrimp in an airtight container and place it in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply heat it up in the microwave for 40-60 seconds.

Ingredients

BBQ sauce/marinade:

  • 4 tbsp organic ketchup
  • 1½ tbsp light olive oil divided
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 lime juiced
  • 1 tsp chili powder optional or to taste
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp hot sauce or to taste
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 1/2 lime cut into wedges to serve with

Shrimp:

  • 1 pound raw large shrimp peeled and deveined (I like to leave the tails on)
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, to garnish

    Satisfying, bursting with flavor, but way too spicy! If it burns a Bangladeshi like me, I can’t imagine how someone who hasn’t grown up with spicy foods would handle it.
