  • Sweet Potatoes: you may use any type of sweet potatoes
  • Olive Oil: another type of bland oil, avocado oil will also work.
  • Dried Rosemary: You may skip it if you prefer to serve it plain or add some ground black pepper or a dash of smoked paprika.
  • Salt: It doesn’t need to be too salt like normal potatoes, so add 1/8-1/4th teaspoon.
  • Garlic Powder: you may use onion powder or 1/8 teaspoon paprika.

  • Cut your fries – Slice your sweet potatoes into thin/medium-sized fries.
  • Season – Toss the fries in a large bowl with the olive oil to evenly coat. Place the coated fries on a large baking sheet in an even layer and then sprinkle with rosemary and salt.
  • Bake – Bake for 15-20 minutes, flip and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes. Add more seasonings to taste if needed before serving.

  • Slice evenly cut fries, so they all cook at the same rate, no burning and no underdone fries here!
  • Don’t overcrowd the fries. Make sure they are spread evenly on a single layer so they all cook evenly.
  • Line the baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • If you have time, soak your uncooked sweet potato fries in cold water for 30 minutes up to overnight. This removes excess starch and makes them even more crispy.
  • For a spicy kick, add some chili flakes after baking.
  • Make sure you add the sweet potatoes to a preheated hot oven
  • You may use your air fryer to make these sweet potato fries. Preheat the air frier to 380F and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Work in batches and open the air fryer every 5-6 minutes to toss or shake it.

Sweet potato fries have a bit more calories and carbs than normal potatoes. But you will find that sweet potatoes have more vitamins and nutrients than normal white potatoes. Any potatoes that are baked instead of fried is a much healthier option for you.

For those who are on a low-carb or keto diet, you may not be able to eat sweet potatoes because they do have a high amount of carbohydrates and will not be a great fit to add to your diet. 1 cup of of raw sweet potatoes had 27g of carbohydrates whereas a cup of normal potatoes has 26g of carbs.

Are sweet potatoes a good or bad carb?

Sweet potatoes are considered “good carbs”. They are high in Complex carbohydrates which are healthier to consume than “simple carbohydrates“. Complex carbs take longer to digest and do not spike your insulin compared to simple carbs.

Sweet potato fries take time to crisp up in the oven. Oven temperatures will vary so the time for it to get crispy will vary depending on the oven. It will take anywhere between 30-40 minutes to bake. Flip the sweet potatoes half way.

Storage and Reheating Recommendations

  • To Store: Place any leftover baked sweet potato fries in a sealed container and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. You may also freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: If you do not care for crispiness, you can reheat in the microwave or you may rebake them at 400F for 10 minutes. You can also do a quick air fry at 380F for 5-7 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 Medium Sweet Potatoes (~2 lbs), washed and cut into fries
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Tsp Dried Rosemary
  • 1/8 Tsp Salt
  • 1/8 Tsp Garlic Powder, or a quick sprinkle

    Great flavor on these sweet potato fries! I baked mine a bit longer to try to get them crispier. I also tried the cornstarch tip but didn’t notice a huge difference. The highlight of this recipe is the seasoning combination. Yum! Thank you!
