Appreciating Your Body At Any Size

September 4, 2014

Here at Healthy Fitness Meals, we encourage all of our readers to stay fit and firm, but we know that transition doesn’t happen overnight. The fact is that your body will go through a number of shapes and sizes on your way to your ideal weight, and you need to be able to embrace every one of them. Learning to appreciate your body at any size is an important part of the weight loss process, and it’s an important mindset for life as a whole. Here are some tips to help you see your body in a positive light no matter what it looks like.

Focus On Success, Not Failure

It’s easy to see your weight as a sign of failure, but you have to look past that. Realize that just by deciding that you want to lose weight, you have accomplished something. If you have already lost weight, take pride in what you’d achieved. Losing weight and staying fit take a long time, but that doesn’t diminish value the work you’ve done thus far. Remind yourself of this so you stay motivated to keep progressing with your goals.

Dress For Your Best Features

There has to be one part of your body that you love, or at least like a little bit. Maybe it’s your legs, your chest, your eyes, your hair – something. Find clothes that highlight this as much as possible. Simple patterns in a shirt or pair of pants can hide the things you’re working on and emphasize the things you’re proud of. It’s all a matter of trying on new shapes and sizes to see what works for your body right now.

Tell Yourself You’re Beautiful

You’ve probably seen those motivational videos that tell you to look yourself in the mirror and say, “You’re beautiful.” They seem cheesy and cliché, but truth be told, that simple act really works. Tell yourself that you look good enough, and you may actually believe it in time.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder – A Serious Problem

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a serious problem in America, affecting about 1 in 100 people. People with BDD see their bodies differently than other people see them. They see themselves as disgusting, hideous, and unworthy of companionship. This can lead to depression, anxiety, and even suicide in some cases. It’s a serious issue and one that a lot of people face when looking into weight loss. If you or someone you know may suffer from BDD, seek help for your condition before it’s too late. You are beautiful. You are amazing. You are worthy of love. Don’t ever make your weight convince you otherwise.
